This has been a big year for the Tae Kwon Do program! Master Dan has joined the Global Traditional Taekwondo Federation (GTTF) and is the Michigan president. Through GTTF, any belts that student earn under him are recognized globally--including Kaleidoscope's first black belts.
Amanda Knapp and Deborah Knapp, who are mother and daughter, began working on their Tae Kwon Do belts in 2020, after taking self defense classes with Master Dan for a couple years. This spring, they both achieved their black belt rank, making them the first Kaleidoscope students to earn their black belts with Master Dan.
Amanda, a homeschool mother and Kaleidoscope staff member, initially began taking the Tae Kwon Do classes alongside her five children as a way of helping them stay focused on class. Master Dan enjoys teaching students of all ages and was happy to have an adult in the mix. (In fact, another Kaleidoscope mother and children are also well on their way to earning their black belts!) A recent KBOCC graduate, Deborah is attending MTU this fall and plans to continue as an assistant instructor for Tae Kwon Do as her schedule allows.
Master Dan has over 45 years of experience in martial arts, and will be testing for his 7th dan (degree) black belt in South Korea this fall. He will be traveling there for the annual GTTF Global Summit.
You or your child can train with Master Dan too! We have Tae Kwon Do and Self Defenses available at both Kaleidoscope locations during the school year and our summer sessions.
