The vision was an afternoon of getting creative and messy, giving kids ages 8-14 the chance to spend a few hours immersed in arts and crafts projects with no worry about grades or doing things "right." Our motto? "There's no wrong way to do art."
Kaleidoscope's first Art Camp took place in 2023 and was hosted and sponsored by the Ontonagon Artist's Collective. The next two years, we hosted one ourselves at Kaleidoscope L'Anse. This summer, we added Art Camp to Kaleidoscope Hancock's schedule as well as a STEAM day camp at both locations. Our goal for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) Camp was to foster out-of-the-box thinking with hands-on projects that involved tinkering and experimenting. All together, 27 young artists participated in Art Camp and 25 young scientists participated in STEAM Camp (some of the kids did both for a full day of creating and learning).
Thanks to sponsorships from the Baraga County Chamber of Commerce and the Keweenaw Community Foundation, we were able to keep tuition costs down and provide scholarships as needed. This was the third consecutive year of sponsorship from the Baraga County Chamber of Commerce, and we welcomed the Keweenaw Community Foundation to our Art and STEAM Camp family as a new sponsor. Thank you to these organizations for helping make these day camps accessible to all our local youth!
Are you bummed that your child missed out? Check out our Summer Classes in both L'Anse and Hancock--there is still time to sign up for our Session II (August) Classes!
